Sports Dentistry

Sports Dentistry involves the prevention and treatment of orofacial athletic injuries and related oral diseases, as well as the collection and dissemination of information on dental athletic injuries to athletes, coaches, and trainers. The resulting goals are an overall increase in prevention of injury and proper management of injuries when they occur.

Dr. Della Bella is the team dentist for The Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Cyclones, and various high school and amateur athletic organizations in the Greater Cincinnati area. He and his staff make hundreds of custom-fitted mouthguards annually. The need for a custom-fitted mouthguard in sport cannot be overemphasized. Having witnessed the kind of injuries that mouthguards can prevent and treated the injuries that weren’t prevented, Dr. Della Bella recommends proper protection for many sports including, but not limited to: football, ice and field hockey, soccer, basketball, lacrosse, racquetball, volleyball, karate, and tae kwon do. Please keep in mind that for patients of record there is no charge for a custom-fitted mouthguard made by Dr. Della Bella.
